Kenyan Contestant Says Memorized Quran in 85 Months

Heitham Safar Ahmad, who is competing in the memorization category of the contest, has made it to the final round.

He told IQNA that he started learning the Quran by heart at the age of ten.

"When I began memorizing the Quran, I thought I would manage part of my life based on the Quran,” he said, noting that after memorizing the Holy Book he realized that all life should be based on its teachings.

Ahmad also noted that he has taken private courses to learn Quran translation, interpretation and concepts.

The Kenyan memorizer further said he has previously attended Quran competitions in Egypt, Bahrain, Libya and Tanzania, winning the top title in the last one.

He described the international Quranic event in Iran as having been organized much more gloriously.

Ahmad also hailed the motto of the contest, namely "One Book, One Ummah (nation)”, saying it shows all Muslims can maintain unity under the guidance of the Quran.

The 34th edition of the International Quran Competition of Iran got underway in Tehran on Thursday with the participation of Quran memorizers and reciters from 83 countries.

The Imam Khomeini (RA) Mosalla (prayer hall) is hosting the event, which will run until Wednesday.
