Quranic Activities Continue in Syria’s Government-Held Areas
This is according to Tariq bin Ziyad al-Jizar, Syria’s representative in the second international Quran competition for the visually-impaired.
He competed in the memorization of the entire Quran category of the contest, which was held in the Iranian capital of Tehran last week.
Tariq told IQNA that while a Fitna (sedition) fomented by terrorist groups has gripped Syria since 2011, teaching the Quran and implementation of Quranic activities continue in the areas of the country that are under the control of the central government.
There has been no change or decline in Quranic courses and programs since the start of the war, he noted.
The Syrian Quran memorizer added that the government supports Quranic activities and that al-Assad Quran memorization and interpretation centers, run by the Awqaf Ministry, are active in different parts of Syria controlled by the government.
Also, he said, mosques host Quran recitation sessions and memorization circles.
Tariq further referred to his Quranic achievements, saying he started learning the Quran by heart at the age of 5 and received a Quran memorization certificate three years ago.
He said it was his first participation in an international Quran competition, describing the Quranic event as an excellent move encouraging the visually-impaired to memorize the Quran.
As for the motto of the competition, namely "One Book, One Nation (Ummah)”, Tariq hailed the selection of the motto at a time when the Muslim world needs unity more than ever.
By choosing the motto, he said, the Islamic Republic of Iran demonstrated the importance it attaches to Islamic unity.
