Thousands of people took part in the march held to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS) and his faithful companions.

They marched toward the al-Raya sports complex and gathered there, according to Shafaqna website.

Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah addressed the mourners via video conference, stressing the importance of the issue of Palestine.

He also underlined the need for the Muslim Ummah to adopt a strong stance against the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) Takfiri terrorist group.

Ashura is the culmination of a 10-day annual mourning period in the lunar month of Muharram for the third Imam of Shia Muslims, who was a grandson of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him).

Imam Hussein (AS) and 72 of his faithful companions were martyred in the Battle of Karbala in the year 680 AD.
