TEHRAN (IQNA) – A convoy of teenage Iranian Quran reciters arrived in Iraq on Tuesday to take part in a competition titled Showq Tilawah (zeal for recitation).

The young Qaris are accompanied by a number of Quran masters, including Gholam Reza Shahmiveh and Mehdi Shoja.

Members of the Iranian Quranic convoy were received by officials of Ma’ahad al-Quran Ataba Abassiya at Najaf Airport.

They will be in Iraq until March 19 for the competition.

The Qaris, aged 8 to 13, are from different cities such as Tehran, Tabriz, Qazvin, and Mashhad.

The Quran contest is held in Iraq annually with the aim of identifying Quranic talents.

Quranic activities have significantly developed in Iraq since the 2003 overthrow of former dictator Saddam Hussein.

There has been a growing trend of Quranic programs such as competitions, recitation sessions and educational programs held in the country in recent years.
