Int’l Quran Competition Gets Underway in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR (IQNA) – The 60th edition of Malaysia’s international competition on Holy Quran recitation and memorization kicked off in the southeast Asian country’s capital on Monday.

 

According to IQNA dispatches, the opening ceremony started at 5:15 P.M. local time at the Putra World Trade Center with playing of Malaysia’s national anthem.

It was followed by recitation of prayers and recitation of verses from Surah al-Ankabut of the Holy Quran by guest Qari Ahmed bin Gazali.

The competition will conclude on Saturday, May 12, with the awarding ceremony.

 

 Int’l Quran Competition Gets Underway in Malaysia

 

Last year, 91 Quran reciters and memorizers from 49 countries attended the Quranic event.

In the last year edition, Iranian Qari Hamed Alizadeh bagged the top prize in the recitation category.

Two years earlier, Iran’s Mohsen Hajihassani Kargar had won the first rank in the prestigious Quranic event.
