TEHRAN (IQNA) – All primary and secondary schools in the Malaysian state of Kelantan are encouraged to set up Quran recitation clubs by early next year, an official said.

State Education director Muhammad Zahari Othman said some of the schools in Kelantan already had their Quran Recital Clubs but if possible, the department wanted all 595 primary and secondary schools to have their own clubs.

He said Quran recitation clubs would be beneficial to Muslim students especially those from the Orang Asli communities.

“We believe that it is important for every school to have a Quranic recitation room to allow the students to recite in the morning or evening after class.

“At the same time, students who live in hostels will have the opportunity to recite the Quran in the middle of the night,” he said at a press conference after launching Kelantan Students Quran Hour Program at Al-Sultan Ismail Petra mosque in Kubang Kerian, on Thursday.

Also present was Kelantan Quranic Recitation Association chairman Adnan Hashim.

A total of 5,000 people including 3,000 students from 177 schools attended the program.

Muhammad Zahari said the department decided to introduce the program to encourage students to read, understand and learn from Al-Quran at all schools.
