Imam Hussein Mausoleum Being Prepared for Muharram Mourning Ceremonies

TEHRAN (IQNA) – With the approach of the lunar Hijri month of Muharram, the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) in Karbala, Iraq, is being prepared for the mourning rituals of Muharram.

The walls and courtyards of the mausoleum are being covered with black sheets and banners as sign of mourning.

The Astan (custodianship) of the holy shrine has also made the necessary preparations for receiving and serving millions of pilgrims expected to visit the mausoleum during the first ten days of Muharram.

On the first day of the month, the flag of the dome of the holy shrine will be replaced with a black one as a sign of mourning.

Muharram is the first month in the lunar Hijri calendar.

In this month, Shia Muslims all over the world mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), who was martyred on the Day of Ashura (the tenth of Muharram) in the 680 (AD) Battle of Karbala along with 72 of his companions.
