Ervin Musayev, an advisor to the city’s mayor, said there is an 85-percent progress in the construction of the mosque, RT Arabic reported.

He said the construction will be completed next year and the Muslims’ religious affairs department will take charge of the mosque.

He noted that the construction lasted more than the planned period due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We can say that the construction project has entered its final phase,” Musayev stated, adding that the mosque would be a gift to Muslims of Crimea.

The mosque’s construction began in 2015 and currently, 120 individuals are working in two shifts to finish the project.

After completion, the building will host 3,000 to 4,000 worshippers, including 900 women.

Crimea is a peninsula in Ukraine, on the northern coast of the Black Sea, which has been under Russian control since 2014.

The majority of the Crimean population adheres to the Orthodox Church, with the Crimean Tatars forming a Muslim minority.
