IQNA – Selma Blair has apologized for making an anti-Muslim remark on social media that sparked outrage earlier this month.

She posted her apology on Instagram on Tuesday, after deleting her original comment last week.

She said there was a “terrible err” in her comment and that she “regretted it.”

"Hate and misinformation are amplified so easily these days. This time by my own hands," Blair wrote. "In this instance, I erred in my writing and I fully recognize how I contributed to the Muslim community being understandably very upset."

Her Islamophobic comment came in response to a post by Abraham Hamra, an immigration reform advocate, who criticized two Democratic congresswomen, Rashida Tlaib and Cori Bush, for voting against a bill that would bar anyone involved in Operation Al-Aqsa Flood.

Tlaib and Bush said the bill was unnecessary and discriminatory.

Blair had written: “Deport all these terrorist supporting goons. Islam has destroyed Muslim countries and then they come here and destroy minds. They know they are liars. Twisted justifications. May they meet their fate.”

Many people, including the Council on American–Islamic Relations, an advocacy group, denounced Blair's comment as Islamophobic and hateful.

Blair, who is Jewish, said she was aware of how she had offended the Muslim community and her friends. She claimed she was committed to peace and tolerance.

Her controversial comment came amid a sharp increase in anti-Muslim hate in the US. CAIR said it has received 3,578 complaints of anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian discrimination and harassment in the last quarter of 2023.

The rising hate is mainly fueled by Western media propaganda about the Israeli regime’s genocidal war in the Gaza Strip since October 7 that has killed more than 28,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and left more than 68,000 others injured.
