Officials, Resistance Groups Offer Condolences on Death of Ramadan Abdullah

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Officials and resistance groups in different countries offered condolences on the death of Ramadan Abdullah Shalah, the former head of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement.

 

Shalah, 62, died of an illness in a hospital where he was receiving medical treatment.

In a message, Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh described Shalah as a Palestinian leader who raised the flag of resistance and his life was one of self-sacrifice, Jihad and resistance and worked hard to boost unity among Palestinian groups.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also issued a message, saying Dr Ramadan Abdullah spent his life on the path or resistance and made efforts to liberate Palestine.

He offered condolences to the Palestinian people, current leader of Islamic Jihad Ziad al-Nakhala and the family of the deceased.

Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement also voiced condolences over the demise the resistance leader, stressing that Hezbollah will continue to side with the Islamic Jihad and Palestine.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in a message said, “By losing Shalah we lost a great national man.”

Shalah was born in Gaza in 1958 and became the head of the movement in 1995 after the assassination of Fathi Shaqaqi.

Ziad al-Nakhala was chosen to lead the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement in 2018 because of Shalah’s illness.
