The competition started today and will run until May 14 at the Youth Centre’s Silaturahim Hall in Dar es Salaam from 8.30am to 5pm.
Of the participants, 53 are qari (male reciters) and 31 are qariah (female reciters).
The contest is an annual project by the Youth and Sports Department (JBS) under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) since the 1980s.
The tournament has produced high calibre qari and qariah that compete at higher levels of competition.
The contest is aimed at showcasing the competitors’ potential particularly in Tarannum.
