Egyptian University Student Becomes Runner-Up in Kazan Quran Contest

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Mahmoud Khalid Swaid is a university student from Egypt who came second in a recent international Quran competition held in Kazan, the Republic of Tatarstan.

He told an Egyptian TV network in an interview that the contenders in the Quranic event were skillful, m.akhbarelyom.com website reported.

Mahmoud said the competition was held for three days in Kazan and the awarding ceremony was organized on the fourth day.

He noted that the representative of Chechnya won the top prize in the international competition.

Mahmoud also stated that he made it to the contest following selection processes made by two Quranic boards in Egypt.   

The Egyptian student of medical sciences said he started learning the Quran by heart at the age of three in his home village and managed to memorize the entire Holy Book before the age of ten.

He has previously attended many Quran competitions at the local and national level in Egypt, including one held by Al-Azhar Islamic Center.

The participating countries in the Tatarstan Quran competition included Indonesia, Britain, Uzbekistan, Libya, Qatar, Togo, Niger, Ivory Coast, Pakistan, Palestine, Turkey, Uganda, Egypt, Yemen and Algeria.

The contest was aimed at promoting Quran memorization and recitation among the youth and others, according to the organizers.
