TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Head of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) says one of the common duties of Islam and Christianity is to promote the role of religion in the life of individuals.

“One of our today’s missions is to strive for a correct religion-based lifestyle,” ICRO head Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Mehdi Imanipour said on Monday in a meeting with Sebouh Sarkissian, archbishop of the Armenian Diocese of Tehran.

All Abrahamic religions have shared principles and this common area can be good support for expanding relations, said the Iranian cleric.

Pointing to the benefits of interfaith dialogue and ICRO’s insistence on its continuation, Imanipour said that such talks seek peace, peaceful coexistence, and arriving at common beliefs.

Elites of Islam and Christianity can play an important role in alleviating the pain of today’s mankind, he added/

He also hoped that the ninth round of interfaith dialogue with the Armenian church can be held soon.

Renaissance was a deception that some world powers created to eliminate religion so as to confront religious government, he said, adding, “We cannot deny the mistakes made by the Church but those were excuses to eliminate religion from society.”

Extensive efforts are also underway to harm religious lifestyle, he lamented.

For his part, Sarkissian referred to 23 years of relations between the Armenian Church and ICRO, noting that he came to know the organization when the late Ayatollah Taskhiri was its chief. “I feel at home here.”

Elsewhere he regretted that today’s mankind is distancing from religion.

The Archbishop also hoped that the next round of interfaith dialogue can be held early next year.
