IQNA – The Muslim community in Saint John, Canada, is expressing worry over a string of break-ins targeting mosques.

Saint John's Muslim Community Concerned by Mosque Break-Ins

The most recent incident occurred at the JRJ Saint John Mosque located on Fairville Boulevard, where damage was reported on April 18.

Buland Akhtar, the mosque's president, detailed that the perpetrator vandalized the front entrance and a restroom. The suspect was interrupted and fled without stealing anything when Brother Sakib, a worshiper, arrived for the early morning prayer, Country 94.1 news website reported on Tuesday.

In a phone interview, Akhtar voiced his concerns, "This is a religious concern, so my main concern is what if that person had any arms in his hands or he did some harm to Brother Sakib."

Akhtar also revealed that this was not an isolated event. The Abu Huraira Mosque on Somerset Street has experienced multiple break-ins, resulting in the theft of various items, including a sound system and a carpet.

“It seems that swift action is not being taken on these incidents, so it’s increasing day by day,” Akhtar said.

The local Muslim community is urging both authorities and community leaders to take decisive measures to tackle the problem.
