IQNA – Iran’s parliamentarians in a statement strongly condemned the recent move by the government of Canada to blacklist the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

The statement, signed by more than 250 lawmakers, described the IRGC as the Shajarah Tayyibah (a blessed offshoot) of the Islamic Revolution and a legacy of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran Imam Khomeini (RA) that, over the years, has not only defended Iran’s territorial integrity but also played a role in defending the region’s oppressed nations, especially Palestine

The IRGC has been a throne in the eyes of the enemies of Islam, particularly the Zionist regime and its backers, the MPs said.

The statement added that the government of Canada, which is a staunch supporter of the genocidal Israeli regime, has added the IRGC to a list of so-called “terrorist entities” in an idiotic move that runs counter to international laws and regulations.

“We, the representatives of the great Iranian nation, reiterate our all-out support for the IRGC and each of us consider ourselves to be a (member) of the IRGC,” the legislators added.

The statement censured Canada’s unwise act and called on the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to use all political and international means and channels to convey this condemnation.

In a hostile move against Iran, Canada's Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc Ottawa on Wednesday listed the IRGC as a “terrorist entity” under the Criminal Code and called on Canadians in Iran to leave.

Last month, the Canadian House of Commons adopted a non-binding resolution calling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government to blacklist the IRGC and expel an estimated 700 Iranians.

The move makes Canada the second country in North America after the United States to blacklist the IRGC.

Canada broke off diplomatic ties with Iran and closed its Tehran embassy in a surprise move in 2012, citing various reasons, including Iran’s support for Syria, its nuclear work, and alleged threats to the Israeli regime.

In the same year, however, Ottawa took off the anti-Iran terrorist Mujahedin Khalq Organization (MKO) from its list of terrorist organizations.
