Muslim World Quranic Parliament Aimed at Promoting Islamic Proximity

IQNA – The Quranic parliament of the Muslim world, the establishment of which was proposed by the head of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) last week, is aimed at promoting Islamic proximity.

This is according to Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Mostafa Hosseini Neyshabouri, director general of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization’s (ICRO) Tabligh (propagation) department. 

He wrote in an article for IQNA that that it would move on the path of reviving the united Islamic Ummah around the common pivot of Quranic teachings. Following are excerpts from the article:

The 20th International Islamic Forum was organized in Moscow, Russia, by the International Islamic Forum, the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation, and the Russia Mufties Council under the theme: “The Path to Peace: Dialogue as a Foundation of Harmonious Coexistence.”

Muslim scholars, thinkers and Muftis from 48 countries took part at the forum on September 20-21.

During the event, ICRO Chief Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Mehdi Imanipour, who represented the Islamic Republic of Iran, proposed the establishment of a Quranic parliament of the Muslim world.

The goals that such a parliament can pursue include introducing and promoting the Quran and Quranic teachings as divine messages to the world, preventing the spread of wrong assumptions about the Holy Book, integrating Quranic activities and developing Dar-ol-Quran centers in the world, making the best use of potential and practical capacities of Quranic teachings at the international level, supporting Quranic figures like qaris, memorizers, interpreters, researchers, artists and others active at the international level, elevating the level of international cooperation with the theme of the Quran, and strategic planning to revive the Quranic culture and lifestyle.

It can also help to define and promote Quranic models within the framework of Quranic diplomacy, strengthen Islamic fraternity among those in charge of Quranic affair in different Muslim countries and create and develop Quran studies chairs in academic and scientific centers.

The parliament can identify capacities for developing coordination among Muslim nations and help them take joint measures and prevent duplications.  

It can also help Quran activists in the Islamic world learn about one another’s policies, activities, programs, productions, etc and cooperate in these fields.
