Egyptian Mufti Stresses Interfaith Dialogue to Counter Global Challenges

IQNA – The Grand Mufti of Egypt underlined that dialogue among religions is necessary in order to confront global challenges and achieve peaceful coexistence.

Nazir Ayyad made the remark at a meeting held at the Arab country’s foreign ministry to coordinate joint interfaith efforts. 

He said interfaith dialogue is not an option any more but it is an urgent need given the current challenges in the world, Youm7 website reported.

He added that maintaining strong ties among followers of different religions is the best way for reaching peaceful coexistence and countering any attempt at spreading hate and discord.

Ayyad said all divine faith call for promotion of common human values such as justice, compassion and tolerance.

Everyone should strive to spread these common values, he went on to say.

Followers of different faith should enhance cooperation and develop mutual programs to bring views closer together and boost mutual understanding, the cleric stated.

He also stressed the need for paying attention to moral values as the first fortress against deviated and extremist behaviors.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayyad said social media and the internet should be used to promote the moderate religious discord, especially among the younger generation.
