Mohammad Hossein Ansari made the remark in a ceremony held on the occasion of The International Day of Islamic Art at the Iranian Cultural Center in Sarajevo earlier this week.
He said that for centuries Muslim artists strived to spread the sublime moral and human values of Islam via the language of art.
He added that Islam has no mission other than inviting people to worship God, the Almighty.
Artists, who have a strong ability to see the beauties of the world and expressing them through artistic ways, praise God by creating works of art and invite others to take the path of praising God as well, he stated.
Salma Pandjic, a Bosnian Islamic arts expert, also addressed the ceremony. She referred to the Prophet’s (PBUH) Hadith that says “God is beautiful and loves beauty”, and said this Hadith lays out Islam’s stance on beauty and art.
She said Islamic art is in harmony with nature and with God’s creation and is a reflection of God’s beauty.
According to the expert, nature has been the main source of inspiration for Muslim artists.
Next, Jalil Jokar, a professor of Islamic arts at the Isfahan University of Arts, addressed the event via videoconference, elaborating on some symbols in the Islamic arts of calligraphy, Tazheeb and architecture.
The program also included a workshop on Iranian Qalamkari (Calico work).
The International Day of Islamic Art was proclaimed at the 40th session of the UNESCO General Conference in 2019 and takes place every year on November 18.
