Kelly Farrugia, 39, allegedly attempted to drive her car at Shaykh Wesam Charkawi, a prominent Muslim community leader and student support officer at Granville Boys High School, according to The Daily Telegraph.

The incident reportedly occurred outside the school and is said to be part of a years-long fixation on the institution and its staff. Prosecutors claim the act posed a serious threat, with Shaykh Charkawi narrowly avoiding harm.

In a separate event at Kmart Bankstown, Farrugia was recorded engaging in an alleged religiously charged tirade, which went viral on social media. Witnesses claim she used offensive language and directed intimidating remarks at shoppers.

Farrugia appeared at Parramatta Bail Court, where the prosecution argued that her actions were influenced by racial and religious prejudices.

She was granted strict conditional bail, including requirements to live with her father, observe a nighttime curfew, and maintain a 500-meter distance from Bankstown and Granville.

Shaykh Charkawi, known for his leadership in “The Muslim Vote” campaign advocating for pro-Palestine political candidates, has been a vocal community figure addressing issues related to the Israeli occupation of Palestine.

Farrugia is set to return to court in January.
