IQNA – Commitment to Imam Ali’s (AS) path in Jihad and confronting aggressors guaranteed Iran’s victory against the Zionist regime, an Iraqi university professor said.

Iraqi scholar Hessam Qadouri al-Jabouri

Hessam Qadouri al-Jabouri, a professor of comparative linguistics at the University of Baghdad, made the remark in an interview with IQNA about the recent Israeli aggression against Iran, and the Islamic Republic’s decisive response to the attacks.

He said responding to acts of aggression is an obligation based on Quranic and Islamic teachings.

The Quranic deterrence equation obliges this duty upon Muslims along with full readiness of forces, he said, citing Verse 194 of the Quran's Surah Al-Baqarah: “The Sacred month for the sacred month and all sacred things are (under the law of) retaliation; whoever then acts aggressively against you, inflict injury on him according to the injury he has inflicted on you and be careful (of your duty) to Allah and know that Allah is with those who guard (against evil).”

The Baghdad University professor, also pointed out that—in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter and based on the principle of self-defense—confronting the Zionist regime’s aggression is Iran’s legitimate right.

“Adherence to international law and the UN Charter guarantees the right to sovereignty and deters aggressors, securing the powerful global standing of the Islamic Republic. However, unfortunately, international institutions are largely subservient to American hegemony, which views international law as both unbreakable and a flexible tool to suppress the voices of the people. Nevertheless, the Islamic Republic’s commitment to international law ensures sufficient political maneuvering space on the global stage to expose aggressors.”

Al-Jabouri highlighted the duty of freedom-loving people worldwide and Islamic nations in confronting the Zionist occupation regime’s savage crimes during its attack on Iran, and said the 12-day war period carried consequences that the Americans and Zionists absolutely did not desire.

“Iran’s deterrence and strength in the face of coercion empower those seeking liberation from the hegemony of arrogance to reject it. The value of resistance is no longer limited to a specific military faction; rather, it extends beyond that and includes governmental and popular actions by various nations. Supporting Iran and its stance ensures the survival and dignity of these nations.”

He further said the Israeli regime crossed a new red line in international law by attacking nuclear facilities in Iran.

“Unfortunately, most relevant international institutions, such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), are trapped in the grip of the Americans and their allies. As the old saying goes, 'You cannot gather grapes from thorns' (What comes out of the jug is what’s inside it).”

He deemed the condemnation of the Zionist regime’s savage crimes by Islamic institutions—including the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League—as insufficient and said, “It would be better to say that in this battle, the Islamic Republic has overcome another obstacle, and what Zionist groups have done has actually served Iranians by fostering better engagement with Arabs and Muslims. The supportive stance of the Egyptian government and Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, as well as the strong backing of Pakistanis, is evident. Now, we are witnessing positive developments in Afghanistan and even Turkey, and at the popular level, this is erasing the negative narratives implanted in the public mind by enemy media. Today, we see popular support in Iraq, Egypt, and the occupied Palestinian territories. The hostile voices against the Islamic Republic have become discordant, and this in itself is a victory.”

On June 13, the Zionist regime waged an unprovoked war of aggression against Iran, carrying out airstrikes on the country’s nuclear, military and residential sites that resulted in the martyrdom of over 600 people, including top military commanders, nuclear scientists and civilians.

The Iranian military forces started counterattacks immediately afterwards, carrying out retaliatory missile strikes against the Zionist regime as part of Operation True Promise III that inflicted heavy losses on cities across the occupied territories and forced the regime to beg for a ceasefire.
