The Cooling Unit of the Technical and Engineering Projects Department at the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) has launched a special initiative to enhance comfort for visitors during the mourning period of Muharram.
Speaking to the shrine’s official website, Safaa Ali Hussein, head of the Cooling Unit, stated: “Our department has developed a comprehensive plan to ensure a suitable and healthy environment for pilgrims during Muharram by installing advanced central cooling systems across the courtyard of the shrine.”
He explained that the plan involves the deployment of cooling systems with a total capacity of over 9,000 tons. The main focus is on climate control at the shrine’s entry and exit pathways to manage the large influx of visitors.
"The indoor cooling temperature is set to remain between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius," he noted, "which helps to prevent illnesses caused by sudden shifts between indoor and outdoor temperatures."

Millions of pilgrims from Iraq and other countries visit holy shrines in Karbala during the mourning month of Muharram.
Watch:
Shia Muslims, and others around the world, commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) every year during Muharram.
The third Shia Imam (AS) and a group of his family and companions were martyred in Karbala on the 10th of Muharram (Ashura), 680 AD, by the army of Yazid bin Muawiya.
This year Ashura will be observed on Sunday July 6.
