‘Indivisible Islamic Heritage’: Egypt’s Mufti Slams Israeli Storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque

Nazeer Mohammed Ayyad, Grand Mufti of Egypt and Secretary-General of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, slammed the storming of Al-Aqsa by dozens of extremist settlers under heavy protection by Israeli occupation forces.

He described the incident as “an act of arrogance and a continuation of the systematic Israeli policy of desecrating Islamic holy sites.”

“These repeated assaults are not isolated incidents,” Ayyad said, “but rather pre-planned steps in a broader project aimed at Judaizing Al-Aqsa Mosque.”

He added that the Israeli regime seeks to impose a new reality by force and occupation in order to erase the truth and provoke the feelings of more than two billion Muslims who are spiritually and emotionally connected to the site.

He stressed that any violation of the sanctity of Al-Aqsa is “a blatant insult to the sacred beliefs of the Islamic nation, which considers the mosque and its surroundings untouchable.”

“We repeat a thousand times: Al-Aqsa Mosque, with all its courtyards and structures, is entirely Islamic. It is not subject to division or negotiation. Its ownership is beyond dispute, under any pretext or condition,” he said.

Ayyad also called on the international community, human rights organizations, and free people around the world to take urgent and effective action to halt the occupation’s ongoing violations against sacred sites and Palestinian lands. He urged support for the unarmed defenders in occupied al-Quds “who are safeguarding the honor and spiritual heritage of the Muslim Ummah.”

The latest incursion took place on Monday morning, when groups of Israeli settlers, accompanied by military, entered Al-Aqsa Mosque through the Moroccan Gate. According to the Islamic Waqf Department, the settlers conducted provocative tours and performed Talmudic rituals in the eastern part of the mosque compound.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces intensified restrictions on Palestinian worshippers, checking ID cards and preventing entry at various gates.

Al-Aqsa Mosque, one of Islam’s holiest sites, has been subjected to near-daily violations by settlers and Israeli police—except on Fridays and Saturdays. Palestinian officials and Muslim authorities have long warned that these actions are aimed at changing the status quo of the site and enforcing spatial and temporal divisions.
