IQNA – Amid the ongoing genocidal war and relentless Israeli attacks on Gaza, displaced Palestinian children are finding solace in memorizing the Quran inside refugee camps.

Orphaned Palestinian Children in Gaza Camps Turn to Quran Amid Genocide

One such child is Saji Ayash, who lost her father in Israeli bombardment during the early months of the war. From her refugee camp, she joined a program at Al-Baraka camp in southern Gaza, dedicated to supporting 500 orphaned boys and girls, Rudaw Net reported.

Saji, already a Quran memorizer, expressed her pride: “We are the children of martyrs. Our fathers worked hard so that we would memorize the Quran, to make them proud and to crown them with the crown of honor on the Day of Judgment.”

She added, “As the daughter of a martyr, I am honored to memorize and recite the Quran in this camp. I hope my recitation will be a source of pride for my father and a reward for him in Paradise.”

Another participant, Saif Abu Bakr, is the only survivor of his family. “We lived in safety and happiness, but in this war my father, mother, and three sisters were martyred in the Israeli bombardment. I escaped with injuries and burns,” he said. Despite his loss, Saif stressed his determination: “With all the oppression, pain, and hunger, I will continue memorizing the Book of God to follow the Prophet’s example and complete it.”

Muaz Abu Ajwah, another orphan attending the Quran completion ceremony, broke into tears as he recalled his father. “I memorize the Quran and take part in this completion ceremony so I can present the reward to my father in Paradise,” he said. “Despite the pain and loss, I will continue my journey with the Quran to make my father happy in Paradise and send him the reward of my memorization and recitation.”

Their dedication comes as Gaza’s Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs reports that more than 90 percent of mosques in the Strip have been destroyed, forcing Palestinians to turn refugee tents into places of worship and Quranic study.

The Israeli aggression has killed more than 65,000 Palestinians in Gaza since the start of the war in October 2023. The relentless attacks have internally displaced almost all the 2.2 million population, as the strict Israeli blockade has caused widespread famine in the territory.
