IQNA – The infallible Imams (AS) and the Ashura movement are a spiritual capital for the world of humanity, an Iranian official said.

Hessam Rasouli, head of the Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research (ACECR) in the northwestern province of Ardebil, made the remark in a meeting of the center’s officials on Tuesday, adding that it is essential to disseminate and introduce this spiritual capital to the world.

The Ashura movement and Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions are not just for a group of people or just for Muslims, but they are a model for humanity that suffers from the lack of a human role model, he said.

He said that Imam Hussein (AS) showed the world the symbol of truth and unity against oppression on the day of Ashura.

“The Ashura movement is a movement different from other revolutionary movements. In this movement, there were people from all strata of society, from small to large, from old to young, from different ethnicities, religions, and classes, and this is a sign of the universality of this movement.”

Rasouli further said that the Ashura movement is a symbol of standing against oppression and a standard for measuring right from wrong.

“In this movement, Imam Hussein (AS) stood against the perversion of religion, and if it were not for him and the Ashura movement, we would not be able to recognize the exploitation of religion as a tool for selfish desires.”

He also considered the Ashura movement a symbol of choosing an honorable life instead of a life of humiliation, and continued, “Imam Hussein (AS) fought to preserve religion and human dignity, and showed that morality can be maintained in a struggle until the last moment.”

Shia Muslims, and others around the world, commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) every year during Muharram.

The third Shia Imam (AS) and a group of his family and companions were martyred in Karbala on the 10th of Muharram (Ashura), 680 AD, by the army of Yazid bin Muawiya.

This year Ashura was observed on Sunday, July 6.
