“I converted to Islam in April 2021, and my family reacted with surprise but understanding at the same time. I chose the Hagia Sophia Mosque in Istanbul to announce my conversion to Islam, and Islam completely changed my life for the better,” said Lyudmila, describing how cancer brought her to her deathbed before a miraculous recovery led her to embrace Islam.
Lyudmila said that doctors told her she had only two months to live after the cancer spread throughout her body. Her reaction to the news was, “I will survive”, noting that her faith in God, and then her family, were her true supporters during this period.
“This disease taught me a lot and refined me. After overcoming these difficulties, I realized that what matters most is strength and faith, and this is what I always try to convey to every patient I meet: faith is the foundation.”
After surviving, Ludmila converted to Islam and dedicated her overcoming of pain to a charity project in Senegal, where she founded the Mila for Africa Foundation, which focuses on helping two underprivileged groups in Africa: cancer patients and people with albinism (a rare genetic disorder that results in a lack of melanin pigment in the skin, hair, and eyes).
Through her foundation, Lyudmila provides medical and psychological care to these children and seeks to change social perceptions through intensive awareness-raising programs.

She also works to integrate the children into schools to save them from isolation. However, she stressed that changing mindsets is a long-term process and requires media and financial support to make their voices heard.
She concluded with a piece of advice, saying, “Have faith in God, show mercy, and do good, because only through good deeds and helping those in need can we change the world together.”
