In a video message, he said, “The statement welcoming the arrival of the army was imposed on us by Damascus and issued under pressure from foreign countries.”

He added, “Despite our statement, Damascus continued its indiscriminate bombardment of Sweida. We are facing an all-out war of annihilation and demand to counter this attack with all available means.”

Al-Hajri said, “After numerous negotiations with Damascus that did not lead to any results or honest deals, the statement we issued, with all its details, was imposed on us by Damascus, under pressure from foreign countries, and under the pretext of protecting the blood of our sons.”

Despite accepting the “humiliating statement” by the Druze community, the government began “breaking the covenant” and “bombing unarmed civilians”, al-Hijri said, adding, “Today, either we remain Syrian and do not accept humiliation and insult, or we face decades of humiliation and insult.”

On Tuesday morning, July 15, a statement attributed to the spiritual leadership of the Druze in Sweida province welcomed the entry of HTS forces into the province and called on residents of the region not to resist government forces and to hand over their weapons.

The statement also called for the start of dialogue with the HTS government to address the consequences of recent events and the activation of government institutions in cooperation with the residents of Sweida province.

Armed clashes continue for the third consecutive day in four areas of Sweida province in southern Syria, including Al-Thala Airport.
