IQNA – An elderly Egyptian woman at the age of 76 was finally able to fulfill her dream of reading the Holy Quran after years of illiteracy.

Fatima Ali Muhammad learned to read the Quran at 76.

The woman from Aswan, Egypt, was deprived of education for years. At the age of 76, thanks to her and her grandson's determination, she was able to overcome illiteracy and read the Holy Quran, according to al-Masrawy website.

Fatima Ali Muhammad, by participating in the “No to Illiteracy, with Solidarity” project organized by the Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity, successfully passed the literacy test and realized her dream.

Alaa Essam, Fatima’s granddaughter, says about her grandmother’s life that she lost her father in her early years, which prevented her from completing her education. She left school before completing the second year of primary school, and her siblings took care of her, the youngest child in the family. She married early and had nine children (five boys and four girls).

Fatima, despite her circumstances, was eager to see her sons and daughters get education so that they would not suffer her fate. As a result, two of her daughters graduated from the teacher training college, and the third daughter received a five-year teaching diploma. All of them now teach in schools.

Her sons also enrolled in secondary education and received diplomas in commerce or industry, fulfilling their mother’s dream of educating her children.

Alaa adds that after her grandmother went to literacy classes, she remembered her dream of reading the Holy Quran. So Alaa began teaching her the letters and writing a few simple words, and then sent her to another class. Day by day, her dream of escaping illiteracy came closer, until the time of the exam came and her grandmother passed it with flying colors.

Alaa expressed her happiness at being able to compensate for her grandmother’s efforts by freeing her from illiteracy and fulfilling her dream of reading the Holy Quran.
