Addressing an open session of the Parliament in Tehran on Wednesday, Ghalibaf congratulated the arrival of the Islamic Unity Week and said these days, which are decorated with the anniversary of the birth of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), are a reminder of the mission of the Prophet (PBUH) in creating a society based on faith, rationality and love.
This auspicious occasion calls Muslims to empathy and convergence, he stated.
The Islamic Unity Week and the anniversary of the blessed birth of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is an opportunity to reread the main message of Islam, which is brotherhood, ethics and justice, he added.
In the light of the name and memory of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), the Islamic Ummah should rely on commonalities and be united against enemies, Ghalibaf went on to say.
He called unity not a political tactic but a religious and strategic necessity for the dignity of the Islamic Ummah and overcoming the enemies.
Today, he added, the main example of unity must emerge in the fight against the Zionist regime as the greatest evil.
He also said that Muslim governments should follow the people and take practical measures to stop the killing machine of the Israeli regime.
The 17th day of Rabi al-Awwal, which falls on September 10 this year, is believed by Shia Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), while Sunni Muslims regard the 12th day of the month (Friday, September 5) as the birthday of the last prophet.

The interval between the two dates was declared the Islamic Unity Week by the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini, in the 1980s.
The occasion is marked this year as Muslims in the besieged Gaza Strip are facing genocidal attacks by Israeli forces. The Israeli regime launched its devastating war on October 7, 2023. More than 63,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed and many others injured in the Israeli attacks on Gaza. There have also been many fatalities as a result of starvation caused by the Israeli siege on the Palestinian enclave.
