IQNA – The Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Iran’s Parliament) said Muslim countries should cooperate to counter the Israeli regime’s aggressions.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf

Speaking at Mehrabad Airport before leaving Tehran for Pakistan on Wednesday, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf referred to the important and influential position of Iran and Pakistan in the region and the Islamic world and said one of the important issues of the Islamic world is the Zionist regime’s repeated and open aggressions against Islamic countries.

This issue is a serious concern for the countries of the region, especially Islamic countries, and regional cooperation, including in the form of agreements with Pakistan, can be effective in confronting these threats, he stated.

He said the two-day trip comes at the invitation of the Speaker of the Pakistani House of Representatives with the aim of expanding cooperation and parliamentary relations between the two countries.

“Naturally, one of the important axes of this trip is coordination and development of parliamentary relations. Therefore, a group of representatives of the Islamic Consultative Assembly and members of the Iran-Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Group will accompany me on this trip to discuss common issues in official meetings with the House of Representatives and the Senate of Pakistan.”

Ghalibaf added, “Parliamentary relations between the two countries have been established regularly in the past, and numerous meetings and discussions have been held during the two terms that I was the Speaker of the Assembly. Of course, this is my first official visit to Pakistan as the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly.”

He went on to say, “I think that today, given the recent developments in the region and the 12-day war (imposed by Israel against Iran), the role and position of Islamic countries, especially Iran and Pakistan, is very important.”

Ghalibaf emphasized that Iran and Pakistan are two influential countries in the region and the Islamic world.

“Geographically, in the area of Central Asia, West Asia, and the Indian subcontinent, the relationship and cooperation between the two countries has a special place. I hope that during this trip, we will have meetings with the prime minister and other officials of the Pakistani government. The main focus of the talks will also be the development of economic cooperation.”

He also said the cultural ties between Iran and Pakistan are very deep and effective. “In addition to cultural relations, political and security cooperation is also of great importance. Unfortunately, our region is facing numerous tensions due to the interference of extra-regional powers, especially the United States, which have affected all countries in the region. Therefore, we need more cooperation, coordination, and consensus between the two countries in the security, political, and regional spheres.”
