IQNA – The “Dawlet El Telawa (State of Recitation)” TV program, which is a special talent competition for the recitation of the Quran in Egypt, commemorated the memory Sheikh Mahmoud Khalil Al-Husari.

The program aired a report on late Al-Husari, performed by Asa’ad Younis, an Egyptian artist and media personality, for the audience of the program, Al-Watan reported.

The report noted that Al-Husari, born in a village of in the Gharbia Governorate of Egypt, memorized the entire Quran at the age of 10.

He was given the name Al-Husari after his father, who worked in the field of mat weaving.

His Quranic journey began at the Sidi Ahmed Al-Badawi Quranic Center in Tanta, before joining Egyptian Quran Radio in 1944 to serve the Quran by reciting, reviewing, and correcting recitations.

His most notable achievement was the recording of his Quran recitation Quran, which was first broadcast on September 18, 1961.

This achievement was Egypt’s gift to the world, according to the report, and in this regard, 44,000 copies of the recorded recitation by al-Husari were distributed to world capitals.

The first episode of Dawlet El Telawa premiered on Friday, launching a new journey to discover rising talents in Quran recitation and Tajweed.

The program airs every Friday and Saturday on Al-Hayah, CBC, and Al-Nas TV Channels as well as on the WATCH IT platform.

More than 14,000 participants from across Egypt took part in the auditions for the show, presented in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Awqaf and United Media Services.

Multiple selection stages narrowed the number down to the top 32 talents who will compete in the final episodes, overseen by a specialized scholarly committee from the Ministry of Awqaf, chaired by Dr. Osama Al-Azhari.

The judging panel brings together leading religious and academic figures from Egypt and the Islamic world, including Sheikh Hassan Abdel Nabi, Deputy Head of Al-Azhar Quran Review Committee, vocal and Maqamat expert Dr. Taha Abdel Wahab, Islamic preacher Mostafa Hosny, and renowned reciter Sheikh Taha Al-No’mani.

The total prize value for Dawlet El Telawa reaches 3.5 million EGP. The two first-place winners in the recitation and Tajweed categories each receive 1 million EGP, along with the honor of recording the entire Holy Quran in their voices for broadcast on the Misr Quran Kareem channel.

They will also be granted the prestigious opportunity to lead Taraweeh prayers at Imam Hussein (AS) Mosque during the upcoming Ramadan.

Hosted by Aya Abdelrahman, Dawlet El Telawa marks a groundbreaking step in supporting Quranic talent, reviving the authentic Egyptian school of recitation, and reinforcing Egypt’s longstanding role as a leading beacon of Quranic excellence and enlightened religious scholarship.
