IQNA – Lady Fatima’s (SA) exemplary character should serve as a model for the modern world, a Nigerian religious scholar said, urging universities to teach her life and personality in academic form.

Nigerian Scholar Calls for Academic Study of Hazrat Fatima’s Legacy

Ahmad Thani Harith, a teacher and scholar at Nigeria’s seminary, told IQNA on the anniversary of Hazrat Fatima’s martyrdom that the Quran, along with the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the Ahl al-Bayt (AS), contains numerous virtues highlighting her elevated status.

“If we look into the Quran,” he said, “we find verses whose inner meaning refers to her, or whose revelation was caused by her.”

Quranic Verses on Hazrat Fatima

He cited the Verse of Purification: “Indeed, God desires to repel all impurity from you, O People of the Household, and purify you with a thorough purification” (33:33). He said the verse addresses the Prophet (PBUH), Imam Ali (AS), Hazrat Fatima (SA), Imam Hasan (AS) and Imam Hussein (AS).

Harith noted, “God did not say ‘from you’ (minkum), but ‘about you’ (ʿankum). This means sin does not exist in the Ahl al-Bayt (AS); rather, God has kept sin away from them entirely, which affirms the infallibility of Hazrat Fatima (SA).”

He also referenced the verse: “Say, ‘I do not ask you any reward for it except affection for [my] relatives’” (42:23). Harith stressed that after all the hardships of delivering the message, the Prophet (PBUH) asked only for love toward his near relatives, “and Hazrat Fatima (SA) is the closest person to the Messenger of God. No one was nearer to him than she.”

The third verse he mentioned was the verse of Mubahala (3:61), explaining that when the Prophet (PBUH) was asked to bring unmatched representatives for the challenge, “he named Hazrat Fatima (SA); had there been a woman more virtuous, the Prophet (PBUH) would have chosen her.”

Harith described the Prophet’s (PBUH) deep respect for his daughter. “Whenever he entered or left the house, he would kiss her head. When she entered a room, he would stand up for her and kiss her hand.” The Prophet (PBUH) also said, “Fatima is a part of me and the heart within my body.”

He underlined that Hazrat Fatima (SA) was not only a daughter, wife, and mother, but an active member of society.

Women would visit her for guidance, and she delivered significant political and religious speeches—including her address in the Prophet’s Mosque defending Imam Ali (AS). These, he said, show her strong social presence.

Need for Modern Role Models

Harith urged Muslims to take Hazrat Fatima (SA) as a role model. “Today’s world suffers from a lack of true role models, while media often promote negative ones. Hazrat Fatima (SA) is a model for both men and women.”

He warned that Western media distort the image of Islam and influence minds by undermining Islamic figures.

Harith called on everyone to study her biography in detail: “Hazrat Fatima (SA) possessed both inner and outer perfection. She is the best woman in this world and the Hereafter. Her life—especially her relationship with her father and husband—contains lessons and wisdom for all.”
