In a statement, the association denounced the insult to the Holy Quran by Jake Lang, a Republican candidate for the US Senate seat in Florida, saying this act is an unacceptable insult, devoid of any human feeling, and at the lowest level of morality, Akhbar Al-Yawm website reported.
This move is a malicious attempt to exploit the differences between various ethnicities in order to occupy a Congress seat, it deplored.
The statement continued by emphasizing that spreading religious hatred is an insult to American society; a society known for its religious diversity, of which Muslims constitute a significant part.
The Lebanese Muslim Scholars Association also said that the Quran desecration, represents an insult to the religious sanctities of Christianity and Judaism as well, and paves the way for extremists of other religions to commit similar violations against the sanctities of others.
“We emphasize that this act of hate has nothing to do with freedom of expression, but rather falls squarely under the category of religious hatred.”
The Lebanese Muslim Scholars Association called on legal institutions in the United States to punish this criminal for the crime of desecrating the sanctities of a large part of American society and threatening domestic peace.
It also called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to take appropriate measures to stop such actions at the level of international law, and called on civil society organizations in the United States to launch a campaign of domestic protests and efforts to stop such acts through judicial means.
At the end of the statement, it was emphasized that the Holy Quran is the holiest of books for Muslims, and its desecration represents an insult to all Muslims.
