Top Iraqi Qari Passes Away

TEHRAN (IQNA) –  A prominent Iraqi Quran reciter died Sunday at the age of 53.

 

Mahmoud bin Shakir bin Muhammad al-Karkhi was a senior Qari and teacher of Quran recitation styles.

He was also the vice-president of Iraq’s Association of Qaris and headed the Qaris Society of Diyala province in eastern Iraq.

The senior Quran master was in Iran last month to serve as a member of the panel of judges of the 35th International Quran Competition of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Born on May 29, 1965, in Baqubah, capital of Diyala province, al-Karkhi started learning the Quran at an early age.

He received more than 50 permissions for recitation of the Quran from eminent Iraqi Quran masters.

He trained a large number of Qaris as a Quran teacher over the years.

The Iraqi Quranic figure also wrote several books on Tajweed, Seerah (life of the infallible), and history.
