Int’l Quran Contest Kicks Off in Egypt
Senior political and religious officials took part in the opening ceremony, youm7 website reported.
Representatives of 41 countries, including 32 African states, are present in the Quranic event.
This edition has been named after renowned Egyptian Ibtihal reciter Sheikh Sayed al-Naghshbandi.
It is under way in two sections for men and women in the categories of memorization of the entire Quran and Ibtihal.
According to Adil Musilihi, the executive director of the contest, 11 contenders are from the host country.
He said winners will receive a total of 920,000 Egyptian pounds in cash prizes.
Musilihi also said that a number of top Quran experts from Egypt and a number of other countries, like the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, and Yemen, make up the panel of judges.
