Quran Memorization Contest Underway in Iraq with 63 Female Participants

TEHRAN (IQNA) – An international competition for Quran memorization is underway in Iraq with the participation of female contestants from various countries.

A total of 63 female Quran memorizers from Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Lebanon have participated in the event titled “Umm Abeeha”.

The event has been organized by the Umm Abeeha Quranic center affiliated to the Grand Mosque of Kufa with the cooperation of the international center for Quran promotion affiliate to the Ahvaz branch of Astan of Imam Hussein (AS).

According to Seyyed Adel al-Yaseri, caretaker of Umm Abeeha center, the competition is being held on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Hazrat Zahra (SA).

The event is being organized online using the Telegram application as the running platform, he added.

The competition kicked off on Wednesday in an online ceremony attended by authorities of the Grand Mosque of Kufa and the Astan of Imam Hussein (AS).

The aim of the event is to encourage female Quran memorizers to continue the correct Quranic path as well as to train Quran teachers.

The panel of arbiters consists of experts from Iran and Iraq who will assess the contestants' Waqf and Ibtida (pause and start), Tajweed, and Lahn (rhythm).
