TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has slammed the closure of the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron by the occupation forces.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned the Israeli occupation forces' closure of al-Ibrahimi Mosque in the city of Hebron to worshippers, in addition to the continued incursions and attacks on the blessed al-Aqsa Mosque, considering these provocative measures an attack on the sanctity of Islamic holy sites, and stressing the OIC's rejection of attempts to divide the blessed al-Aqsa Mosque temporally and spatially.

The OIC, in a statement, held the Israeli occupation authorities responsible for the consequences of their continued attacks on the Palestinian people and the ongoing violations of the sanctity of holy sites, calling on the international community to take urgent action to put an end to these serious violations that fuel violence, tension, and instability in the region.

The mosque’s Director, Ghassan Al-Rajabi, condemned the move as continuation of the Zionist authorities’ attempts to dominate and occupy the mosque and give it to Zionist settlers.

The Ibrahimi Mosque is located in the city of Al-Khalil (Hebron) in the West Bank.

According to some Hadiths (narrations) the tombs of Prophets Ibrahim (Abraham), Is’haq (Isaac), and Yaqub (Jacob) and their wives are in this mosque.

Israel divided the Ibrahimi Mosque in 1994 between Muslims and Jews following the infamous massacre committed by a Jewish settler which left over 50 people dead. Prior to that time, it was an exclusive Muslim worship area.

Israel does not allow Muslims to enter the mosque and say prayers there on Jewish holidays.
