They said in a statement that this year’s motto will be “I Follow Religion of Holy Prophet (PBUH)”.

The scholars said the religion of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the pure and clean religion and the one that the Ummah (Islamic community) needs.

It is in this religion that the event of Karbala gets its meaning, the statement said, adding that Imam Hussein (AS) remained steadfast until the last drop of his blood and was martyred to defend this religion.

The scholars said that learning from Imam Hussein’s (AS) steadfastness in order to enhance the Bahraini nation’s capability to pursue its rights, justice and dignity and focusing on Islam as the basis of unity and resistance against the enemies of the religion and humanity are among the objectives of selecting this motto.

They called on all devotees of Imam Hussein (AS) to do whatever they can to promote the message of Imam Hussein (AS) in the world.

Ashura is the 10th day of the lunar calendar month of Muharram, the day on which Imam Hussein (AS) and his 72 companions were martyred in the Battle of Karbala in southern Iraq in 680 AD after fighting courageously for justice against the much larger army of the Umayyad caliph, Yazid I.

Ashura is the culmination of a 10-day annual mourning period in Muharram for Imam Hussein (AS).

The Muharram ceremonies symbolize the eternal and unwavering stance of truth against falsehood and humanity’s struggle against injustice, tyranny and oppression.

Each year on Ashura, the mourners, dressed in black, march in mass processions, listen to elegies and hold noon prayers, with benefactors distributing votive foods.
