Daesh Terrorist Attack Kills 8 in Kabul’s Shia Neighborhood

TEHRAN (IQNA) – A terrorist attack by Daesh (ISIS or ISIL) on Friday in a Shia neighborhood of Kabul claimed at least eight lives, wounding 15 others.

 

According to the local police, the explosion happened in a crowded area.

The blast comes as Shia Muslims are holding mourning processions for the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS).

In a statement on Friday evening, the terrorist group claimed responsibility of the attack.

Videos posted on social media show men rushing to help the injured after the explosion.

According to an unnamed Taliban security official, the explosives were placed in a vegetable cart and the blast resulted in the wounding and killing of more than 50 people, including women and children

He noted that the death toll will likely increase as many of the wounded had critical wounds.

Iran denounces Kabul blast

In a statement on Friday evening, Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Naser Kanaani vehemently condemned the terrorist attack, expressing “deep grief” over the martyrdom of innocent people.

Extending condolences to the families of victims and wishing speedy recovery for the injured, he urged the Taliban security forces to adopt more measures for providing participants at Muharram mourning processions with security.

The terrorist group has ramped up attacks against Shia minority in Afghanistan after the Taliban took power in the country. Back in April, worshippers at a Shia mosque in Mazar-e-Sharif were targeted by Daesh terrorists. The attack claimed at least 31 lives while also injuring 80 others. Another attack in Kunduz killed at least four people and wounded 18 other people.
