Speaking to IQNA in Kuala Lumpur on the sidelines of the 62nd edition of Malaysia’s international Holy Quran competition, Mohamed Azam Mohamed Adil described Iran as a major Islamic country in terms of Quranic activities.
Iranian qaris have won the top title in Malaysia’s international Quran competition several times, he noted, adding that the two countries have great potential for boosting Quranic cooperation in the future.
He further said that events like the ongoing international Quran contest serve as venues for linking Quranic activists from different countries.
The competition also helps to promote interest in Quran recitation among the people of Malaysia, he added.
According to Mohamed Adil, many Malaysians interested in Quranic teachings are active in memorization of the Holy Quran.
He noted that there are many private schools in the country operating in the field of teaching Quran memorization.
He said Quran memorization and recitation are both important in spreading Quranic teachings but what matters more is contemplating in the verses of the Holy Book and recognizing their true messages.
Asked about the activities of IKIM, Mohamed Adil said it is an Islamic think tank founded by the Malaysian government.
He said it also has a radio station named Radio Institute of Islamic Studies Malaysia or Radio IKIM which broadcasts religious programs in Malay and other languages such as English, Mandarin Chinese and Bahasa (Indonesian).
The final round of Malaysia’s 62nd international Holy Quran competition, also known as Malaysia International Al-Quran Recital and Memorization Assembly (MTHQA), officially started in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday night.
