Hajja, who is the director general of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), also chairs the panel of arbiters in this edition of the competition.

Other members of the panel are Quran experts from different countries. They include Sheikh Samih Ahmed Khalid al-Athamina from Jordan, Abdul Rashid Sufi from Qatar, Sharif bin Haji Abdul Rahman from Thailand, Maria Ulfi from Indonesia, Sheikh Mahmoud Ahmed Akawi from Lebanon, Sheikh Muhammad Ali Atfai from Morocco, and Sheikh Hafiz Othman Sahin from Turkey, as well as Salehuddin bin Omar, Raslan bin Abul Haleem, and Faidh bin Shadli from the host country.

The members of the panel are in a separate section of the competition hall and even have been accommodated in a separate hotel so that there is no contact between them and the contestants.

To assess the performance of the contenders, the panel members only listen to their voice of the one reciting the Quran so that their judgment will not be affect by anything else.

In this regard, the representative of Belgium in the contest told IQNA’s correspondent in Kuala Lumpur that the panel know none of the contenders and by listening the performances, score the participants only based on the regulations and this is fair judgment.

The final round of the 62nd edition of Malaysia’s international Holy Quran competition, officially known as Malaysia International Al-Quran Recital and Memorization Assembly (MTHQA), kicked off at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC) on Wednesday and will conclude in an awarding ceremony next week.

Iranian qari Masoud Nouri is representing the country in the international Quranic event.
