According to the draw, Iran’s representative Masoud Nouri will be the first qari to go on the stage to showcase his Quranic talents.
Nosratollah Hosseini, an Iranian Quran master who is accompanying Nouri in the competition as a guide, said the draw ceremony was held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC) on Tuesday night.
Hosseini said that after the inauguration ceremony on Wednesday night, Iran’s contender will be the first participant to go on the stage.
Nouri will recite verse 156 of Surah Al-Imran based on the draw, the Quran expert said.
The 62nd edition of Malaysia’s international Holy Quran competition, officially known as Malaysia International Al-Quran Recital and Memorization Assembly (MTHQA) was held online in the preliminary stage. The finals will be organized in-person, starting tonight.
According to officials, 41 individuals from 31 countries are set to participate in the final round, which will run until October 24 at the KLCC.
The MTHQA is being held again after a two-year suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Kuala Lumpur hosted the 61st edition in April 2019 and Iran’s representative Hadi Movahed Amin finished fourth after qaris from Malaysia, Algeria, and Morocco. More than 100 qaris and memorizers from 71 countries had participated in the previous edition.
