TEHRAN (IQNA) – Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh called on leaders of Muslim and Arab countries to take measures to save Al-Aqsa Mosque in the holy city of al-Quds.

In a message to Muslim world and Arab world leaders, Haniyeh referred to the new policies of the Zionist regime and the recent provocative move by one its ministers and said the Zionists are after full dominance over the holy place, Al-Arab News reported.

He warned that an imminent threat has been posed against holy sites in Palestine, especially Al-Aqsa Mosque, as a new far-right government is taking charge of the Zionist regime.

Haniyeh added that the move by the Israeli regime’s national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir to enter Al-Aqsa Mosque’s courtyards has intensified tensions.

He said Ben-Gvir’s racist remarks show that the far-right government of the Zionist regime intends to dominate Al-Aqsa.

The Hamas official underscored that the Palestinian nation will never accept such a thing and will stand against such moves and the Zionist regime’s attempts at Judaization of Palestinian holy sites.

The visit to Al-Aqsa by the Zionist regime minister drew fierce condemnation across the world.

While Ben-Gvir has visited the compound numerous times since entering parliament in April 2021, his presence as a top minister carries far greater weight.

A controversial visit in 2000 by then opposition leader Ariel Sharon was one of the main triggers for the second Palestinian intifada, or uprising, which lasted until 2005.
