The Hifz, Naazira, and Qira'atul Qur'an Competition is an annual event held at the Islamic Foundation of Toronto.
The Competition was established to encourage youth to compete against each other in the categories of Hifz, Naazira, and Qira'at. The purpose of the Competition is to build and strengthen the relationship between Quran and the youth, according to the foundation’s website.
The Islamic Foundation of Toronto held the first Competition, the first of its kind in North America, in May of 2006 to encourage youth to compete against each other in the recitation of the Holy Quran.
With modest beginnings, the first competition had approximately 60 local competitors and judges. The subsequent years saw the competition grow and allowed individuals from all over North America to compete. Girls' competition was later added to allow young sisters to also compete in the recitation of the Quran.
