TEHRAN (IQNA) – All the differences that arise in a community can be traced back to the denial of realities and truths. Some people do this denial unintentionally and some others intentionally with specific aims in their minds.

This is according to Ayatollah Mohsen Faqihi, a seminary scholar who made the remarks in a session dedicated to the interpretation of verse 176 of Surah Al-Baqarah. Here are excerpts from his remarks:

“That is because Allah has sent down the Book with the truth; those who disagree about it are in extreme dissension,” reads the verse.

Denial of truths is among the big sins that the Holy Quran warns against. This revelation came in response to what really happens in communities. “Those who conceal what Allah has sent down of the Book and sell it for a small price shall swallow nothing but fire into their bellies. On the Day of Resurrection, Allah will neither speak to them nor purify them. Theirs shall be a painful punishment.” (Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 174)

God Almighty has pledged severe punishments for those who commit sin. But why is this denial a major sin? People may deny the truths to gain worldly advantages. For instance, someone may deny the truth to earn money or gain a position.

Some people do not set the Holy Quran as the clear criterion for their decisions and judgments and this makes them not understand the truth or deny it or accept part of the truth and reject another part. One of the methods used by the hypocrites is that they combine right with wrong so as to make it difficult for people to distinguish between them.

Therefore, we should accept all that has been mentioned in the Quran. Some say that they believe in a verse but not in another. One cannot only believe in the Mercy of God and think that there will be no punishment in the hereafter.
