NEW DELHI (IQNA) – Indian army troops from 50 RR entered a mosque in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, and forced Muslims there to chant ‘Jai Shree Ram’ (praising a Hindu deity).

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mehbooba Mufti.

This is according to former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mehbooba Mufti.

On Saturday she called the move “an act of provocation” and requested Lt General Rajiv Ghai to initiate an investigation into the matter.

Lt General Rajiv Ghai took command of the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps of the Army on June 14.

Mufti tweeted, “Shocked to hear about army troops from 50 RR storming into a mosque at Pulwama & forcing Muslims inside to chant ‘Jai Shree Ram’. Such a move when Amit Shah is here and that too ahead of yatra is simply an act of provocation. Request Rajiv Ghai to immediately set up a probe.”

In April, Mufti said that local men had been arrested and tortured in the run-up to the G20 event in Jammu and Kashmir.

Describing the situation in Jammu and Kashmir as being “worse” than Guantanamo Bay, Mufti said since preparations for holding the G20 event began in the region, hundreds of local men have been taken into custody.

Srinagar city hosted one of the G20 events in May.
