The West tried to resolve the issue of woman 400 years ago and that led to the emergence of feminism. Since 200 years ago they started theorizing about it and later their discussions entered UN laws but its output is the porn industry which has become one of the world’s industries generating the highest income.
The West went to solve the problem without taking into account the structures that reproduce the problem.
The Quran, however, pays attention to the complexities of the issue and deals with the problems with an approach that is neither fully holistic nor fully atomistic.
There are two fundamental differences between the Quranic and Western problem solving.
In the Western method, the issue of woman did not get highlighted until there was a movement. Islam, on the other hand, approached the issue 14 centuries ago without there being a movement. Among all issues, the Quran first talks about this issue. The Quran is based on revelation. Westerners thought abandoning a source that comes from revelation is something to be proud of but now they see how harmful such a move was.
Throughout the stages of the revelation, the Quran has pointed to the issue of woman. In the first Surahs revealed to the Holy Prophet (PBUH), the Quran says: “"For what crime were they murdered?” (Verse 9 of Surah At-Takwir) Here the Quran talks to humans and seeks to create a change in minds.
Then there are Surahs that introduce exemplary women such as Asiyah, Maryam, and others, women who resolved many major issues. Asiyah and Maryam faced numerous challenges and managed to overcome them and turn into role models for all humanity.
The Quran also tackled wrong traditions in issues related to marriage, divorce, sexual issues, etc. The Holy Boo recognized women’s financial independence and gave shares to women in political, social and governance fields.
