STOCKHOLM (IQNA) – The secretary general of the Muslim World League said the Quran desecration crisis should be turned into an opportunity for dialogue.

Secretary General of the Muslim World League Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Issa

In an article for Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter, Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Issa called on Sweden and Muslims all over the world to block the way for those who seek to spread hate.

He said that by desecrating the Quran, such people seek to foment division among Muslims and non-Muslims in Sweden.

They want to prevent dialogue between Sweden and the Muslim world and spread disputes and differences, he stated.

“They seek to pit us against one another but our Islamic beliefs do not allow such a thing to happen.”

Issa added that there is an opportunity today for doing what hate-mongers have long been trying to prevent, namely raising awareness among Swedish people about Islam and its values.

Those who burn the Quran inadvertently cause more interest in the Holy Book among the people of Sweden, he went on to say.

In recent weeks, Quran desecrations in Sweden and Denmark with government permission and police protection have drawn widespread anger and condemnations from the Muslim world.

The Nordic countries allow the blasphemies to happen under the guise of the so-called freedom of speech despite wide condemnations from Muslim and non-Muslim states and even in the face of a UN Human Rights Council resolution adopted last month.
