The San Francisco Bay Area office of the council (CAIR-SFBA) welcomed the city of Dublin’s recognition of August 2023 as American Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month.
For the eighth year in a row, the state of California has designated August as American Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month. The city of Dublin will commemorate this designation with a proclamation presented at this evening’s city council meeting. The ceremony will take place during the first few minutes of the meeting.
In its proclamation, Dublin celebrates the contributions of the more than 90,000 Muslims that live in Alameda County, specifically praising the Muslim Community Center and Islamic Center of Zahra for their continued assistance to Afghan refugees, food-insecure families, the elderly, and more.
In a statement, CAIR-SFBA Executive Director Zahra Billoo said:
“CAIR-SFBA sincerely appreciates the continued recognition of the diverse and invaluable achievements of American Muslims, whose dedication and contributions continue to shape the city of Dublin, California, and the nation. This proclamation helps to highlight our shared values and humanity and is a welcome acknowledgment.”
Sobia Qureshi, Board President of the Dublin Partners in Education, added:
“The American Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month brings attention to how integrated and essential American Muslims are in the everyday functions of this community and city. We are shaping the trajectory of the future of our community for us and the next generation, and this recognition is a part of that!”
CAIR-SFBA is an office of CAIR, America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
