Senior Egyptian Qari, Ibtihal Reciter Abdul Rahim Dawidar Passes Away

CAIRO (IQNA) – Sheikh Abdul Rahim al-Dawidar, an eminent qari and Ibtihal reciter in Egypt, died at the age of 86.

He was considered the most senior Ibtihal reciter in the Arab country.

Born in March 1937 in Tanta, he lost his father at the age of 5 and his older brother took care of him.

He started learning the Quran at an early age, praticing Quran and Ibtihal recitation with such masters as Mohammad Naqshbandi, Mustafa Ismail and Taha al-Fashni.

Al-Dawidar traveled to many Muslim country for Quran and Ibtihal recitation.

He visited Iran in 2013 and attended Quranic programs in the country during the holy month of Ramadan that year.

He also recited Ibtihal during a meeting of qaris with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.

He later described the meeting, in which qaris recited verses from the Quran for four hours, as unique.

After returning to Egypt, he praised the Iranian people for their keenness on attending Quranic programs.

Egypt is a country in North Africa with a population of around 100 million.

Muslims account for around 90 percent of the country’s total population.

Quranic activities are very common in the Muslim-majority Arab country and many of the Muslim world’s top qaris in the past and present have been Egyptian.

Over the past decades, Egyptian qaris have always played a major role in the art of Quran recitation in the world.
