CAIRO (IQNA) – An Egyptian researcher has drawn a wave of criticism in the country after making remarks about interpretations of some verses of the Quran.

Egyptian researcher Islam Buhairi

Islam Buhairi, who studies Islamic and religious texts, has claimed that interpretation of some verses of the Quran that relate the content of the verses to annihilation of the Zionist regime are inaccurate.

Speaking in a TV program broadcast on MBC network, he said there is no indication in the Quran of a second defeat of Jews.

He referred to Verse 5 of Surah Al-Isra, “And when the promise of the first came, We sent against you Our worshipers, those of great might, and they went through the habitations, and the promise was accomplished,” and said there is no reason to believe that “worshipers … of great might” refers “to us”.

He said the Quran, in Surah Al-Isra talks about twice corruption of Bani Isra’il, both of which have concluded with punishment for them.
